If you have a passion for watches and would like something a little different, then we may have the answer. BIG Watch Company (BWC) was set up to search for watches that are a little different, but are still a quality product. Our aim is to search and source "cool" watches from around the world.
So what is "cool"?
"Cool", as per the Oxford pocket dictionary (pp113), is 'sophisticated, elegant'.
So why search for cool watches? The thing I like about watches, (especially as a male), is it is my only form of accessory, apart from my wedding ring and my shoes. It is a chance for me to change a wardrobe and wear something that suits my mood, from a dressy watch, to a sporty one or a big watch. Here in the UK, the average male has just over 2 watches, and in Italy they have over 13. The Italian male (who are generally regarded as stylish), will have many variations to suit his daily needs. There is no reason why we cannot do the same, and many of you reading this, probably do. The other aspect of having a cool watch is that I get to see it throughout the day; whereas most other passions a man may have i.e. a car you only see it when you drive it.
The other great thing about watches, is that you can have several in your collection, and yet it does not have to break the piggy bank (in purchase & service costs) although it can if you want!
Did you know there is something like 650 Swiss brands alone?
But BWC doesn't want to stop there; we want to bring watches to you from all over the world. Britain, America, Germany, Sweden, Japan, France, and of course China all produce some fantastic watches that are well made and stylish cool.
We want to look at what we think is cool and what we think is not. The style and how it looks and fits in with your style.
We also want to develop an historical perspective on brands. One of the things I find fascinating about watches (personally), is where they come from, and how they came about. As an example, Panerai were initially made for Italian navy divers, and did not become popular with fashion until the 1990's, when a certain actor requested a small order for himself and a few friends.
There is also a huge swing back to mechanical movements globally from quartz. Whilst the accuracy of quartz is very high, the mechanical watch has become more sought after for the craftsmanship, history, quality, style, prestige and rarity.
If you love watches, like we do, then I hope you enjoy our site and watch it grow.
